If you're looking for a midsize pickup truck that's just as skilled at crawling over rocky trails as it is for cruising on paved streets in Lancaster, get the 2023 Toyota Tacoma. Along with amazing off-road capability, the Tacoma has a feature-filled cabin for an enhanced driving experience in the city. The 2023 Nissan Frontier is also a comfortable midsize truck, but it's not as capable or as well-equipped as the Tacoma. New Holland Toyota has created the following comparison of the two trucks to explain why.
Off-Road Capability
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is a terrific truck to drive on rough off-road trails near Reading, PA. It comes standard with 9.4 inches of ground clearance, but TRD Pro models have 9.7 inches of clearance. Other off-roading features in the new Tacoma TRD Pro include a TRD-tuned suspension and exhaust, Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, a multi-terrain monitor, and a beefy front skid plate.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier comes standard with only 8.4 inches of ground clearance, and even the off-road oriented Frontier PRO-4X models have just 9.5 inches of clearance. Additionally, the Frontier PRO-4X has lower approach and departure angles than the Tacoma, giving it less dexterity over steep obstacles. While the Tacoma TRD Pro has low-speed crawl control that simplifies navigating through complex terrain, the Frontier PRO-4X makes do with a less effective hill-descent assist feature.
Infotainment Technology
A feature-rich infotainment system makes slow treks through traffic in Ephrata more bearable. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma comes with a user-friendly infotainment system that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. Standard voice recognition allows you to control some functions hands-free.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier also has a straightforward infotainment system, but its graphics are somewhat staid. It comes with Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone integration, but Amazon Alexa is unavailable in the Frontier. It also doesn't offer voice recognition, so you have to run most features by hand.
Driver Assistance Features
You'll breathe easy about your safety with the 2023 Toyota Tacoma. It comes standard with six advanced active safety features that help Lititz drivers spot potential problems in time to avoid accidents. Standard adaptive cruise control aids you in keeping a safe distance between the Tacoma and the vehicle in front of it, while automatic high-beam headlights ensure you have enough visibility at night.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier also has a slew of driver assistance features, but amenities such as adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights are just optional. You have to pay more for a higher trim to add them.
Towing Capability
If you'd like to be able to pull heavy trailers around Thorndale, you need a truck that can handle the load. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds when equipped with the V6 engine, an optional Tow Prep package, rear-wheel drive, and the Access Cab. Even base models with a four-cylinder engine can tow 3,500 pounds.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier has a maximum towing capacity of 6,720 pounds. To achieve this total, you must have the base S trim with a King Cab and rear-wheel drive.
Payload Capacity
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is available with a 5-foot or a 6-foot-2-inch bed that New Holland drivers can use to haul construction supplies, camping equipment, or furniture. With a rear-wheel-drive, four-cylinder Access Cab configuration, the Tacoma can haul a payload of up to 1,685 pounds.
The 2023 Nissan Frontier has a maximum payload capacity of 1,610 pounds when properly equipped.
