Toyota Tacoma vs. Ford Ranger

New Toyota Tacoma vs. New Ford Ranger: Which Truck Has the Upper Hand in New Holland?
The Toyota Tacoma has renowned off-road prowess and a wealth of convenient standard features. Its available hybrid powertrain delivers strong torque and excellent efficiency. The Ford Ranger is a similarly sized truck that also has powerful engines, but it can't beat the Tacoma when it comes to overall quality. New Holland Toyota developed the following comparison of these two trucks to help you choose between them.
Fuel Economy
Gas prices are always fluctuating, so it's nice to have a fuel-efficient truck that won't cost as much at the fuel pump. Lancaster drivers appreciate that the Toyota Tacoma earns up to 23 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway when properly equipped. The Ford Ranger returns 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with its most efficient powertrain.
Acceleration
While the Ford Ranger's available turbocharged V6 engine produces more horsepower than the Toyota Tacoma's strongest four-cylinder engine option (405 to 326), the Tacoma generates more torque (465 to 430). Its higher torque gives it quicker acceleration off the line than the Ranger.
Off-Roading Equipment
The Toyota Tacoma uses a combination of plentiful torque and a refined suspension to make traversing trails near Ephrata a pleasure. The new Tacoma Trailhunter trim uses a lifted suspension with Old Man Emu monotube shocks, 33-inch all-terrain tires, Crawl Control, anti-roll bar disconnect, a locking differential, an air compressor, and a terrain monitor to master almost any landscape or road condition. The Ford Ranger also offers off-road capable trims, but they're not quite as impressive as the Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter models.

Ride and Handling
If you want a truck that's pleasing to drive on twisty off-road trails or curvy roads in Thorndale, the Toyota Tacoma is your best bet. Its responsive steering and refined suspension and braking systems make every drive a joy. The Ford Ranger also has a cushioned ride, but its numb steering doesn't provide as much feedback.
Bed Space
If you frequently carry lumber, boxes, or furniture around Reading, PA, you'll want a spacious bed to hold everything. Fortunately, the Toyota Tacoma offers two bed sizes, including a 6-foot bed, to help you haul oversized items. The Ford Ranger has only one available bed, which is just five feet long.
Standard Tech Features
Both the Toyota Tacoma and the Ford Ranger come standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for easy connections to smartphone apps. However, cautious drivers in Lititz will like the Tacoma's standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite. This bundle includes adaptive cruise control, a lane centering system, and more. The Ranger's only standard advanced active safety feature is a rear-view camera. To get more driver assistance features, you must pay more for a higher trim.
Optional Infotainment Touchscreen
The Toyota Tacoma offers a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system in Limited trims and higher. The Ford Ranger's largest touchscreen is a 12-inch vertical display.
Price
Despite earning better fuel economy and having more standard safety features, the Toyota Tacoma's starting MSRP is over $1,000 less than the Ford Ranger's entry-level price. Lancaster drivers can more easily fit a Tacoma into their budgets than they can the Ranger.
