You'll find more legroom in the first two rows of the Toyota Highlander than in the Honda Pilot, and that's great for when bringing friends along with you. The Toyota Highlander offers Lancaster drivers more available cargo space, too, so it's an SUV that is more functional than the Honda competitor.
- You'll want an SUV that you can trust in any situation, and the engineering of the new Highlander ensures that confidence. It has 295 horsepower to the 280 horsepower in the Honda Pilot, and the Toyota SUV has more torque as well. Even with more power, the Toyota Highlander is more efficient than the Pilot, and that's great for those wanting long-term value.
- Speaking of value, the new Toyota Highlander impresses in this regard with its many standard features. This new SUV comes standard with smartphone-related systems, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and five USB ports. The Honda Pilot doesn't have those systems standard and doesn't have as many USB ports available.

- The Chevy Traverse has larger exterior dimensions than the Toyota Highlander, but the latter is more efficient with its space as it has more legroom in the front two rows and more hip room in the second row, which your friends are sure to enjoy.

The Toyota Highlander and Ford Explorer both recently introduced new generations that brought more features, more modern designs, and hybrid powertrain options to the mid-size SUV class. Below, we highlight which model brings more to the table.
- If you want a new SUV that seats up to eight, you'll want the Toyota Highlander instead of the Ford Explorer, which has a max seating capacity of seven. In fact, many Ford Explorer trims only seat up to six, which is only one additional seat over two-row SUVs. Those often in charge of driving kids or friends around will get more use from the new Highlander.
- Both of these SUVs offer hybrid powertrains, but the Ford Explorer Hybrid isn't even as efficient as the Toyota Highlander with a gas engine. The Explorer Hybrid achieves up to 27 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which is well short of the 35 mpg combined in the Highlander Hybrid.
- When it comes to features, the Toyota Highlander goes above and beyond to make drives more convenient. It offers everything from a selectable height level for the hands-free liftgate to a digital rearview mirror to Lane Tracing Assist, none of which the Ford Explorer has in its feature package.
